Blog update

I added a page "Blender2FSX" at this blog where I explain the past and current workflows of getting a fully compatible airplane in FSX from Blender.

Furthermore:
Current status: beta testing and work on the early Dutch version. No release date planned yet.

Different version, different pilot

Hi readers,

A few days ago I mentioned I was working on the early version of the Fokker D.21, that is, the way it looked after delivery in 1938. Because there are photographs of this delivery, the outlook of the pilot is also known. The pilots wore a white flying cap and probably also glasses. I tried to reproduce this, and this is the result. And: the glasses of the pilot are true transparent glass.

And here's an overview of the early version. Biggest differences: no gunsight, no radio (antenna) and red-white-blue-orange markings instead of the orange triangles. The plane is sitting at the platform of Teuge Airport (EHTE) in The Netherlands. Following on this picture is a series of screenies of a flight from Teuge, which I posted on the various forums as well.

Early version pictures

First pictures of the early D.21 version!

This picture shows the absence of the gunsight and the antenna assembly. Also visible are the roundels instead of triangles.

And this pic shows the rather 'empty' look the pilot has due to the absence of the Goertz gunsight.

I will change some other things as well. For example, the pilot needs a bit different outfit and since no antenna is installed, radio and it's system should be removed.

New variation

Hi all,

The current version of the Fokker D.21 is the 'war' version, like the D.21 looked during it's employment in the Maydays 1940. But, I decided to add another version as well, a variation which reflects how the D.21s were initially delivered to the Dutch Army Aviation Department (Luchtvaartafdeeling). There were some differences with respect to the war version:

- No gunsight
- No radio and antenna
- Probably no fire extinghuisher
- Red-white-blue-orange cocards instead of the orange-black triangles

This variation is somewhat obligatory I guess, since it shows the beautiful Dutch national colors, and tells another part of the story.

I hope to keep you informed about this and to put some screenies of it here!

Regards

Development overview

Hi all!

I'd like to give you all a brief overview of the development of the Fokker D.21 fighter for FSX. In Februari 2013 I decided to start this up, mainly inspired by the Fokker G.1 by Michel Migaud for FS2004. Since I didn't have the SDK knowledge and D.21 specific data, I lauched an intermediate project to get myself feeling comfortable with FSX development. In the meanwhile, I studied a lot of photographs and data of the original Fokker D.21. One day, I decided to start with the Bristol Mercury VIII radial engine, with which the D.21 was equipped.

After modelling this nine-cylinder radial proved satisfactory, I went on modelling the main parts of the D.21. I lacked all neccessary data and drawings to create this, but since I studied a lot of photographs, it yet was possible to achieve the model as shown in the picture below.

A premier milestone for me, I guess. After a few weeks, the external model was finally for 95% ready and I moved on to the cockpit, the VC in FSX terms. The only references I had at that time were the photographs of the D.21 replica in the former Militaire Luchtvaart Museum at Soesterberg, and pictures of the only remaining D.21 wreck in Crash Museum at Aalsmeerderbrug. The replica is not entirely correct, but proved to be a confident basis.

Still following the replica's interior, I ended up with a cockpit as shown in the next picture. Not close to history, but yet a fair basis.

At that time, summer was to start and I came into a new phase: texturing. I had some experience in modelling already, but not in texturing, so it took me the entire summer to manage it. Finally, the first start of texturing yielded a beautiful Mercury VIII.

After some time, I had the main job finished: external texturing. It now was time for getting my baby into FSX. This was done using a rather interesting workflow, but I'll explain that later. Anyway, I got something into FSX and it looked, well, reasonable...

After a long time of programming, revising, modelling, texturing, anything, I was able to get a final version of my VC there. I even needed a visit to the Crash Museum to optimize model. Think of it: I had this visit in April 2014, but started the entire project actually in April 2013. Never expected that, but I'm satisfied!

Now, I finally arrived at a substantial beta testing phase. The picture below has been posted today at the various forums I'm active at.

I should state here that this wouldn't have been possible without the help of the magnificent fellows at nederlandseluchtvaart.nl and fsdeveloper.com.

Welcome!

Hi!
Welcome to my blog and thanks for visiting!
In Flight Simulation communities, I'm known as Dutcheeseblend and I am a developer for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Currently, I'm working on the Fokker D.21 fighter for this simulator. The addon is in beta testing phase now.
I already had some kind of a website (dutcheeseblend.tk), but I decided to move to Blogger for more flexibility. The website was more a testbed for my younger brother. He had to design a website as a school assignment, so we decided to cooperate on that.
But now, I can keep you instantly informed about my activities on this blog.
Thanks for reading and see you next time!
